Fun ride! Nostalgic time capsule back to the 90's

You ever wake up in bed and hear your older brothers reminisce abt the people and things they've done in their past? You know u shouldn't listen but it's just too juicy and at the end u wind up discovering many layers to their personalities and revelations abt their past experience. And you never quite view your pain in rear brothers quite the same again.

That’s the way I felt reading Demetrius’s book detailing his relationship with the infamous musical genius known as R.Kelly.
The book does not paint Kelly in the most flattering light, but I found it refreshing that the author in detailing Kelly's character flaws refuses to paint Kelly as a mere monster but a deeply troubled man who was affected by many internal demons, he's sympathetic towards his subject when It would been easy to drop venom from his pen.

Page after page we witness Kelly's erratic, often childish, bazaar antics and his manipulative ploy of using money and fame as means of controlling people and the world around him.
I wondered why Demetrius put up with such utter disrespect. My answer would be that after all the hard work and essentially being the business brains behind the genius, Demetrius himself gets caught up in the seductive glamour that stardom affords and he allows himself to be used and another victim of Kelly’s masterful manipulation. Kelly clearly views him as nothing but another stair to climb in reaching success and a chess piece to move around at whim, although, none of those hits and the image of R. Kelly in the early 90’s never would have come to fruition without Demetrius working in the background.

As often the case of genius individuals they have the habit of seeing the pedestal others place them on and they in turn become blind to the needs of others, feeling that them sharing their gifts to the world is payment enough, and THEY in turn expect to be paid back and they often take payments in the form of using people for their pleasure and gain..

Kelly's self-payment also takes the form of abusing underage girls, like the pied piper (which he stupidly nicknames himself), Kelly uses his fame and musical gifts as a tool to lure children away and often lead them on the roads of abuse and self-destruction. It's all there in the book, but the authors refusal to exploit the salacious aspects, forces the reader to do a lot of reading between the lines. What I valued most in the author is when he doesn't know something or has the full details he admits that he doesn't know instead of making up lies or exploiting the situation, Demetrius I commend for that (smile).
The Aaliyah portions were handled as delicately as possible with the utmost respect for everyone involved. I do wish we could have gotten the full details surrounding the cause of the marriage, "was Aaliyah pregnant? Or was it an STD that caused her cycle to delay forcing Kelly's had to marry her to save himself from possible jail time? Did Aaliyah ever talk to him again before her death? Did she realize that she was just another groomed victim? The author doesn't know, or didn't feel comfortable enough to say which I respect and totally understand.

The one aspect of the book I didn’t enjoy was reading about the number of bed partners he and Kelly had, as a woman I really didn’t enjoy reading about those sordid details or the authors own practice of the old aged “brown paper rule” when it came to describing a woman’s beauty. As a light skinned biracial woman myself it still made me kind of uncomfortable to read that just about every woman he deems to be drop dead gorgeous was light skinned or looked like Mariah Carey, lol. It was just cringe worthy and makes for plenty of eye rolling and page skipping.

All in all tho the book was a pretty fun ride and at its cost, it’s certainly worth it. It’s like a time capsule back into the 90’s when music was good and everyone just wanted to have fun. Demetrius charm as a man and a writer instantly draws you, I certainly wouldn’t want to be left alone with him for over an hour as he literally drips charm and is immensely likeable in a childlike “I just want to protect and love him” kind of way.

I also loved the Gerald Levert portion. Being a Cleveland girl I knew Gerald very well, and was almost signed for a girl trio with his label when I was 17, but my mother refused to let me sign as she knew I had very strong feelings for Levert and vice versa and my father would have gone off, but that’s another book

Excellent read

I recommend this book for everyone but especially young people who are interested in pursuing careers in the entertainment/arts fields. I also think it is ideal for those who have family members struggling with drugs/alcohol. The author is honest, insightful and transparent in his recounting of his life and the lives of those that he was involved with. Thank God he learned from his experiences and lived to tell this story!!!

This story is worth reading , one mans struggle to find himself and deal with lifes struggle .I couldn't put it down well written and a god send for those struggling their own demons would highly recommend this book what a blessing .

While Rushdi survived, Rashad was assassinated in this Masjid in January 31, 1990, by a terrorist group linked to al-Qaeda. The author of this book also received similar fatwa, yet he has escaped several assassination attempts, so far. Code 19, which was also discovered in the original portions of the Old Testament by Judah ben Samuel in 11th century, is simple to understand but impossible to imitate. Code 19 has little to do with numerology, since its literary-numerical (LitNu) pattern can be verified or falsified through scientific inquiry. It is radically different from the pattern demonstrated in The Bible Code, which has no statistical value. Unlike regular metaphysical or paranormal claims, Code 19 can be verified or falsified by virtually anyone, since the Arabic version of the Quran is available everywhere. The message of rational monotheism has sparked an ongoing controversy in countries with Muslim-majority populations, e.g., Egypt, Pakistan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, etc. Internet forums are filled with heated debates regarding this code. The improbability and impossibility of the numerical structure of the Quran being produced by a medieval Arab genius becomes evident when we consider the following factors: • It includes simple elements of the Quran and goes deeper to an interlocking system of complex numerical patterns and relationships. • It involves not only frequencies of letters and words but also the numerical values of letters. • It involves not only an intricate numerical pattern but also a huge set of data consisting of units with multiple functions, such as letters that are also digits, words that are also numbers. • The nemeroliteral aspect of the Quran were not known by the adherents of the Quran until late 1960s and especially, 1974. • The literary aspect of the Quran has received praises from many literary giants throughout centuries. • The scientific accuracy of Quranic statements on various fields has been immaculate. • Muhammad was one of the busiest and greatest social and political reformists in human history. • The timing of the discovery of the code is precise and prophetic. • A series of prophetic events regarding the code has been fulfilled.

This book is a companion to his Reformist Translation of the Quran. It is heavy, it is bold, but not hard to take in for the objective mind. It is not only an explanation of the mathematical beauty of the Recitation, but a reminder to introspect and question what we once considered as truth and to transcend obsolete beliefs, to convert these into conscious acknowledgment as our freewill existence naturally meant. Reality is multidimensional, basically geometrical but in beauty infinitly complex. So is the Quran, an analogical "stereogram", as Mr. Yuksel put it.

Edip Yuksel continues, expands and complements the work of Rashad Khalifa. This book is so charged with insight, truely challenging, integrating world events, religious blindness and fanaticism, science, historical passages and personal history. He redefines basic conceptualizations and word meanings which have been distorted by ignorance, time and those who claim themselves intermediaries and representants of God on Earth. The author does not give you guidelines to follow, but rather invites you to think, explore, question and acknowledge for yourself the meaning of being muslim, Islam and the Last Testament.

Just the Basics Nothing Special

This was a required book for my class and ended up being about $35 cheaper then through the college. The book goes over the basics and for the most part, if you have good common sense you wont really need to read the chapter to answer the questions. Over all its a book that has questions in it, and in my opinion a waste of money for me...

i was forced to read this

I didn't enjoy this book at all. I haven't met a book I didn't like in all of my life, but this one just took all of my life force and pulled it out of me. The experience was painful.
If you are a professor don't subject your students to torture. Choose something else.
Sorry Mrs.Knapp, I hope you never find out that I despise your book. It's not personal.

Book is fine. I needed it for a college class. It's kinda basic knowledge and concepts, but I didn't have any input as to what book was chosen for the class. It's not one I'll add to my library, but it fits the need for a CS class.
