This book is really helpful in facilitating an understanding of cannabis oils. It has a brief overview of the use of cannabis in the United States as a medicine, the healthful substances are available in cannabis (and other plants, too), and a how-to of processing it into an oil (and how to use it in other ways) for better health. It also highlights the benefits of CBD. The discussion is easy to follow and flows well from one topic to the next, allowing the reader to feel unintimidated in exploring cannabis. I walked away from this book with a better feel for what to expect from cannabis.

Finally a decent book on cannabis oils.
By Two Bears
This is about the sixth book i have read on Cannabis oil extraction i have read, and this is the first one that is semi accurate.
I am in agreement with much of what the author says; but in a few places the author makes me shake my head and wonder "What is this guy thinking?"
Pros
I am in complete agreement where he spells out where hexane and Namptha are toxic to the body.
1596 he says this Hash oil can be dabbed in an oil rig. This is Absolutely true but you can get a much smoother smoke if you winterize the liquid before purging off the alcohol.
Winterizing means putting the liquid back in the freezer after removing the plant material. Winterizing causes the clorophyll fats lipids and solids to freeze then filter the liquid inside the freezer through a coffee filter. The frozen clorophyll, etc gets trapped in the filter, and makes the oil give a smoother mire enjoyable smoke. I prefer to dab QWISO than BHO because the winterized oil is not as irritating to the throat as lungs as BHO.
If you want to watch a good instructional vid on YouTube watch "QWISO Jar Method" by Ethanol King88. He does 6 washes lasting 10-15 seconds, WITH in depth instruction on winterizing. This is the video that taught me to make QWISO.
Side note i use 99% isopropyl, and I get 17/2-24.5% yield about the same yield as butane but much safer.
Location 1605 he says to purge until only the tiny pinhole bubbles remain
Cons
In two locations i did not write down he said
"That either Cannabis Indica or Cannabis Sativa can be used to make medicine"
I disagree COMPLETELY! Sativa is a stumulant. The body dies most repairing during rest and sleep. So for medical uses of Cannabis; i would only recommend Indica, or a hybrid cross of Indica with Sativa or Ruderalis. One of my favorite strains for my Chrons is Northern Lights which is a cross of Indica and Ruderalis.
He said "CBD oil made very good medicine" this is mostly true; BUT if you are treating internal cancers, tumors, or skin cancer you MUST HAVE THC in the oil because ONLY THC causes Cell death in tumors and cancer cells.
Location 1522 he recommeds a 20 second Wash.
Thats not long enough to do a proper extraction. Most of the people on YouTube do 3-6 washes each lasting 10-20 seconds. I do a single Wash lasting 85-90 seconds.
1550 he recommend a rice cooker to evaporate off the alcohol. I don't recommend it at all.
When i make QWISO (Quick Wash ISOpropyl) or QWEHO (Quick Wash Ethanol Hash Oil) i never use a rice cooker or crock pot.
I pour the liquid into a shallow dish and sit near an open window, and position a small fan so it will dusturb the surface of the oil abd blow the alcohol fumes out the window.
When 85-95% of the liquid is gone scrape the almost finished oil in a glass or Stainless Steel container i will keep my oil in. I place this container on a candle warmer or coffee cup warmer to purge off the remaining alcohol.
I recommend against the rice cooker for several reasons
1. There is a LOT of surface area to lose the medicine on.
2. Some rice cookers get too hot and burns or scorches the oil; destroying tge cannabinoids you worked to extract.
3. Some rice cookers have a spring that lifts the pan from the heat source when most of the weight is gone so you have to put a weight over the pan to keep contact with the heat source.
The author did not mention one of the ways to extract the cannabinoids without the use of any solvent (Rosin Tech). Pressing buds or kief in a Rosin press or even in a hair straightener.
The only problem with this method is that you leave 40-53% of the medicine behind in the plant material.
If you want to make Rosin, place the Kief or ground up rosin chips in a jar. When You get 1/3-1/2 a jar of Rosin chips stick in the freezer and make a batch of QWISO and extract the rest of the medicine.
Now let me talk about the difference of Everclear and isopropyl.
1. Use only 99-100% ISO. 50-93% have impurities to denature the alcohol.
2. You can extract the cannabinoids in anything over 80 proof. These are fine for making a tincture but if you want a concentrate i woukd start with the higgest proof grain alcohol you can find.
Personally I have made QWISO with 99% isopropyl, and QWEHO with 190 proof Everclear.
I don't Personally recommend QWEHO for two reasons but use whatever you have access to.
Here is two reasons why QWISO is better than QWEHO.
1. Higher yields.
QWEHO provides a yield of 12-14%
QWISO provides a yield of 17.2-24.5%
A much higher yield.
2. Grain alcohol has a LOT of water in it. Graih Alcohol boils at around 173 degrees. But water boils at 212. Meaning you have to use higher Temperature to boil off the water turning the oil an amber or brown color. QWISO oil stays a pretty Honey/yellow color.
Questions or comments email me kahuna2bears@gmail.com. I am phasing out the Yahoo address because of spam.
Email me at the address above and I will be happy to help, and even send you pictures of liquid after winterizing, and send you photos showing the difference of QWISO and QWEHO Hash oils, and why i recommend QWISO over other extraction methods.
